This is a wonderful piece of equipment and it has served me well, but recently I've simply been moving musically to a different direction.

Just send me mail if you're interested.

Sorry for advertising on your guestbook, but I figured this would be the place where all the "good homes" for my beloved instrument are found. The ones who really do appreciate great analogue sound.

I've been using the (Verson 1) Sherman Filterbank for a few years now, and still find it teaching me new ideas all the time. Currently, I run an SH-101, controlling another Sh-101, while having the secondary 101 running through the filterbank. The ability to go from the normal 101 sound (which is killer anyway) to the abused sound is great. Being able to utilize the 101's own filters makes it even better, since they have a dramatic affect upon how the Sherman reacts to the sound. The Sherman just tears the sound apart and makes the 101 the true monster it is.
I have not had the chance to use the Version 2, but I hope to. I am curious as to how it could change the direction of my music.

let`s see what the box of trix will do, tried and tested. I love it, need it and get it today! horay!

Hi Pixel (and others), the name ECHOBANK is wrong (where do the magazines get their info from ?!) It was a CHAOSBANK and indeed we only made 10.

Yes we do think of the artists, so we will keep on supplying you with new beasts of machines. But please give us some time, as we are a very small company and during development of new gear we need to build & pack filterbanks at the same time... And it's not that easy for Herman Gillis to develop a great new machine on his own that includes so many features.
(he doesn't have a whole team of engineers at his disposal !),
Thanks for your patience, the time will come sometime that you will all be surprised about Sherman (providing you keep on supporting us of course)

What ever happened to the Echo Bank? I heard only 10 were made, that's a shame as I'm sure that many a Sherman fan would love to get their gritty little paws on one. Also seeing how the Filterbank 2 contains almost all the core components of a synth wouldn't it be cool if Sherman developed some oscillators and threw together a rackmount mono synth. Some may argue that the day of the mono synth is numbered, however with the recent release of the Macbeth M3X and the upcomming Vermona M.A.R.S. (not to mention a whole host of stuff from Analogue Solutions) I would have to disagree. Imagine a Sherman Synthrack with 2 oscillators (saw, tri, pulse, iverted saw, saw/square and noise[white, pink, red, blue & brown]), 2 murderous filters, harmonics knob for each oscillator, ring modulator, wave shapers, FM, AM and 3 LFOs. Ahhh.... I grow weak at the thought of such an animal! Of course I could always just get a Metasonix TS-23 Dual Thyratron VCO and run it through my soon to be Filterbank 2, but I doubt that would even scratch the potential fatness of the above suggestion. Oh well, I'll keep dreaming.

Hello!
I was buying the Sherman FB first version when it came out in Switzerland.
I couldn't imagine composing without it now, mostly since I'm also using it as a Sound Generator (Ext. Trigged via Analog Sequencing) and not 'only' for Filtering Ext. sources!
It's really one the best gears I ever had in my analogue studio (and I own a bunch of old electronic devices already!).
The next step for me will be to save money to buy a second FB, the second Version then.
Best Regards to all experimentalists!

I've posted here before, but I had to mention that My Sherman Filterbank 2 got married today to a much older but freakingly compatible mate named Korg MS-20. Oh my God! I've had the fb2 for a few months now and bought a like new MS-20 yesterday and the CV combinations alone are to die for! Simply controlling the MS-20's HPF cutoff with the Sherman ADSR has had me with headphones glued for hours. You can route sounds and control signals and LFO's and pitch followers-:) -:) -:), etc. The sound is just absolutely brutal! Using real control voltage for modulation is just way too much fun.

I can not possibly think of a better matched set than a FB2 and a MS-20. If anyone is looking for an indescrible sonic match look no further! I love Moogs, SC's, etc. but this is just too wonderfully unique!

Herman, thanks again!!

Real time foot control is my eventual goal, so I can play the 6-string electric violin through it, live. For now, processing loops and sequences is cool. I wish I could have coughed up the cash for a QMF, but I am not disappointed with the FB! Looking forward to a new "mid range priced" sound product. Any official hints coming soon?

Best Regards from your friend and humble client,

The day I got my Filterbank there was this REALLY annoying kid riding an 80cc dirt bike in the alley behind my house. He kept riding by my window and it seemed like he didn't know how to change gears. So naturally I grabbed my filter bank, a microphone and a portable amp and I set up to do battle with the little devil the next time he came round to my place. I set the resonance high on both filters, no envelope, synced the filters, set them at two low pass, lots of FM and lots of AM and I waited. While I waited for the little bugger to show, I cranked the overdrive for good measure. Then all of a sudden there he was! I aimed the amp at him and pointed the mic in his direction and let the filterbank do its thing. Sure enough, I sent that little brat flying off of his badly tuned motorbike and running home to whine about it to his rich parents. I'd like to thank Herman Gillis for making my victory possible and I'd like to pose the question: when will a backpack version be released?

Sonically yours,

John Tennant

Hi all!

I was just wondering how many of you use a Sherman Filter Bank and how flexible is this piece of hardware?

I've heard samples of it from their web site : www.sherman.be
,I found it to be very "extreme".

I'd be interested to know how "sweet" and "gentle" can it sound?
If a melody from a 101/202/303 was fed into it, what would the o/p be like?

If any of you have examples I'd be very grateful if you could present them.
My email address is above.

Thanks!

Hey Guys,

I just got around to implementing the Sherman Filterbank with my analog modular stuff.

I've been getting some really cool effects by connecting a Roland TB-303 CV/Gate outputs to the 'FM IN' and 'TRIGGER AR' inputs on the Filterbank.

Signals sent through the Filterbank have that characteristic TB-303 Slide "feel" as the filters open and close with the 303 control voltages, and the modulated filtersweeps with high resonance are unbeleivable - This effect is incomparable to using it via MIDI or even manually tweaking the cutoff frequency.

I've also been triggering the ADSR envelope via MIDI and sending the 'ADSR' output to various CV inputs on a Buchla and a Putney. Amazing versatility and everything has been working very smoothly.

Also as suggested in the manual, i've experiment with using the 'AM IN' - It does indeed make a very cool ring modulator with a nice Sinewave fed through to the 'AM' input.

thanks again guys :)

Kurt

I have, use, own and absolutely love my... Sherman Filterbank. It's the most awesome instrument I have ever owned...

I just can't stop telling everyone about the Filter... anyone who'll listen... I have DIY friends who stare in awe whenever I show them what it does... it's all I can do to keep them from taking it apart to find out how it works... I have to
beat them off with big sticks... it just blows them away!! :)

BTW...

I am an electronic musician from Canada... I do a lot of experimental music as well as remix music for other artists. I work out of my home studio in
Stratford, Ontario, Canada

I have a song on my MP3c page called "The Court of the Mad God"... that was made using nothing but the Sherman...

But be warned... this tune is nothing but filterbank... no other instruments were used... it's a total frequency freakout!!!

It reminds me of the work Louis and Bebe Barron did for the "Forbiddon Planet" soundtrack... one of my favorites...

Keep up the great work... I wish you complete success...

Happy in Canada,

Steve

I can't beleieve a company as good as Sherman Productions has finally come out of the underground.
It seemed(before Sherman) that all the big companies had some kind of monopoly on the market of synthesizers and other electronic music production equipment. Then out jumps Herman Gillis and his incredibly awesome analog filter bank. By the way, this ain't "virtual analog", this is the real deal.
Most companies just throw in some very limited digital filter on there new synths even though they
know they can do a lot better. Greed is at the root of this, folks. Quantity without quality with no originality. Thats what its all about now with these companies. I won't mention any names :)

Sherman is such an impressive company. The kind I would want to own if I had a music electronics company. An incredibally small one by comparison to say Roland or Yamaha. But building a product that knocks the competition flat on their faces. To be more precise, they have no competition. The owner of the company builds the Filterbanks!! Which means your getting the best possible quality, something popular musicians like Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Blur, to name a few, have seen and bought in to.

Anyway, enough ranting. The Sherman Filterbank is my favorite and funnest piece of gear I've bought ever.
You can get insane cool and weird sounds out of it!
I'll shortly be buying another Filterbank for cool stereo filtering, and I'll definitely buy any other
gear that Sherman makes in the future. A modular synth in the works? Remember to watch your speakers
though, this thing is a beast!

Thanks for such an amazing product, Sherman.
